Mugello Area
01/
1-Week in the countryside of Florence, Tuscany - Italy
Synonymous with unspoilt landscapes, typical flavors and culture. Located a few kilometers north of Florence, the Mugello area is a wide green valley formed by mountains and hills, woods of oaks and chestnuts and crossed by the river Sieve, one of the major rivers that flow into the Arno.
Mugello is the birthplace land of the Medici dynasty, the banking family that - in more than 400 years of government - transformed Florence into one of the noblest cities in Europe.
If there is a landscape that has been used for art more than any other, it certainly is the one of the Mugello Valley. Vicchio di Mugello is a pleasant small village that gave birth to Giotto and Beato Angelico, inspiring them - as well as Benvenuto Cellini - in the creation of their magnificent works.
Craft-focused journey
Leather Working: An Art with important Tuscan origins
02/
Tuscany has always been one of the main centers of leather production and processing. It was in this region that the art of leather working started evolving in the 1200s.
The river Arno was fundamental to the development of the tanning industry and for the production of Florentine leather: its presence facilitated the transportation of goods and was in its waters, upstream and downstream from the Ponte Vecchio, that the hides were left to soak for tanning.
Florentine leather original manufacture, rooted in centuries of tradition, is still mostly practiced entirely by hand.
• 3-full day Experience in Artistic Leather Work
Stefano Parrini will open his workshop, a typical Tuscan bottega, holding a private course - lasting 3 days - allowing each participant to discover the endless facets of leather industry and teaching how to manipulate vegetable tanned leather.
At the end of the course, each participant will have made a small leather design box, customized according to their preferences under the guidance of the Master Craftsman.

Join us for a one-week retreat in the heart of Tuscany, led by Jane Leek whose life has been shaped by sixteen years of travel, cultural exchange, and deep listening.
meet the guide
With sixteen years of travel, cultural exchange, and deep listening, Jane has wandered the world with an open heart-chasing not just places, but connection, language, and meaning.
Among the most cherished chapters was her time in Italy, where she fell deeply in love with the people, their rhythms of life, and the way they pour themselves into food, togetherness, and long conversations.
She became fluent in their language, fluent too in the art of presence. She was taken in by a master leather craftsman, Stefano Parrini, who welcomed her like a daughter into his home and taught her with patience and pride the art of handmade leatherwork.
She hopes to pass along the beauty she’s gathered - of craft, of culture, and of the quiet intimacy found in learning alongside others - in true Italian style.
